RAC congratulates Subaru for new Impreza 5 star safety rating
31 August 2007
Subaru's new Impreza has gained a 5-star rating from the Australasian New Car Assessment Program (ANCAP).
RAC Executive Manager for Member Advocacy David Moir congratulated Subaru for providing a complete 5 star fleet for the Australian market.
"We are pleased to see more vehicle manufacturers providing the latest safety technologies. It is good news for new car buyers," said Mr Moir.
ANCAP also gave the Impreza a 4-star pedestrian impact test rating - the maximum available for pedestrian protection. This is the first vehicle to be awarded a maximum pedestrian rating under ANCAP testing, showing the injury risk to pedestrians and other vulnerable road users can be "designed into" new cars.
"Car buyers should consider a a vehicle's safety rating when purchasing a new car and only buy cars with 4 or 5 stars. The Impreza provides a wide range of the latest safety technologies, including electronic stability control (ESC) and head protecting side airbags for the driver and passengers. These features contribute significantly to a safer vehicle and saw the Impreza suitably recognised with a 5-star rating," said Mr Moir.
In ANCAP's frontal impact crash test at 64km per hour, the Impreza's passenger compartment proved to be very strong, reducing the potential for injury to occupants in crashes. The Impreza also achieved high scores in the separate side impact and side pole crash tests.
