Football volunteers recognised for valuable contribution
30 July 2009
The crucial role of volunteers in the WA football community will be recognised this weekend when the West Australian Football League and RAC promote Volunteer Round and the RAC Football Volunteer of the Year Award.
Celebrations will centre on Claremont Oval as the battle for top four spots on the WAFL ladder heats up with just five rounds remaining until the semi-finals on Saturday, September 5.
East Fremantle and West Perth will also clash in a crucial contest at Arena Joondalup, with both sides aiming to secure a place in the finals, but both at risk of missing the four with late losses.
Perth also has a chance to make a late bid for finals action when they host Subiaco at EFTel Oval, South Fremantle can improve their standing against Peel Thunder when they meet at Rockingham’s Anniversary Park, and Swan Districts will be aiming to defeat Claremont in their Volunteer Round clash at Claremont Oval.
The Claremont clash will also provide an opportunity to acknowledge the contribution of volunteers who go ‘above and beyond’ in supporting the WA football community, and leads up to the 2009 RAC Football Volunteer of the Year Award.
Following the match, volunteers from the Claremont Football Club will be presented with awards to recognise their volunteering efforts. The RAC will also be handing out mini-footballs to members at a special marquee and will be giving everyone the chance to win some great prizes.
