Major roads lead the way as areas of frustration
24 April 2009
The RAC’s Red Spots 09 campaign is heating up with some of the city’s major roads leading the way as Perth’s most frustrating, according to motorists.
The campaign has less than two weeks left and Perth motorists have been quick to name and shame the city’s areas of congestion.
At the moment the top Red Spots are the intersection of Burns Beach Road and Connolly Drive, Reid Highway, Kwinana Freeway and Tonkin Highway (all nominated for multiple intersections).
The intersection of Beaufort and Walcott Streets has also been highly nominated.
RAC Head of Member Advocacy Matt Brown said the issue of congestion was not going to be easily solved but the Red Spots campaign was a good place to start.
“Many of these congestion problems could be solved with some sensible planning and some modest investments in road improvements such as turning lanes or traffic light sequencing,” Mr Brown said.
“But we need the community to speak out loudly and let us know which sections of road frustrate them the most at rac.com.au/redspots
“With congestion costing Perth $1billion a year*, it’s time the community made a bit of noise about the Red Spots that really concern them and used their people power to push the issue up the agenda.”
Motorists can nominate their Red Spot at rac.com.au/redspots up until May 1.
