Perth's cheapest petrol stations revealed
Motorists in Perth can still find bargains at the petrol pump if they’re prepared to shop around, according to the RAC.
WA’s peak motoring body has analysed fuel price data from February to identify the 20 cheapest petrol stations in Perth showing that families can make significant savings on their fuel bills.
The RAC’s Head of Member Advocacy Matt Brown said some fuel stations offered consistently good value at the bowser and acknowledging them would help motorists.
“The RAC’s analysis showed the average price for unleaded fuel in February was 115.3 cents a litre across the metropolitan area,” Mr Brown said.
“The cheapest stations sold ULP at 111.5 cents a litre, four cents under the metro average.
“So the bargains are still out there and a four cent a litre saving can cut a family’s annual fuel bill by more than $100. This saving can be much more if you are buying fuel at the high end of the market.”
Mr Brown said there was an average difference of 15 cents a litre between the cheapest and most expensive fuel stations in the metropolitan area.
“This means that if you fill up once a week at one of the most expensive fuel stations you will be paying nearly $400 too much for your fuel.”
Mr Brown said the significant drop in petrol prices from mid-way through last year may have caused some complacency among motorists and they were paying more than they needed to.
“It’s not that long ago that motorists were being hit with prices of up to $1.60 a litre,” Mr Brown said.
“At the time motorists were very conscious of every cent they could save at the petrol pump.
“Then petrol dipped below $1.00 a litre late last year and this has clearly had a psychological effect on motorists.
“Many drivers would be looking at prices around the $1.15 to $1.20 a litre mark at the moment and subconsciously thinking it’s not as bad as it was last year.
“But there are still ways to drive down your weekly petrol bill by shopping around for the best price.”
Mr Brown said the Top 20 list was completely dominated by supermarket outlets, providing motorists with potentially even greater savings through the additional discount from the shopper docket system.
The RAC has urged motorists to use the Fuel Watch price system to help drive their petrol dollar further.
