RAC claim bill expected to hit $2 million

30 June 2009

Western Australians have again been hit hard by the recent storm that swept across the south west of the State, with RAC Insurance responding to thousands of calls since Saturday.

To date WA’s leading insurer, has received over 1100 claims for storm damage – a number that could double over the course of this week.

The final cost of the wet weather of the past few days is expected to be close to $2m for WA’s biggest insurer – similar to the cost of the storm in late May.

The majority of storm damage occurred between Saturday evening and Monday night.

Early analysis of the claims shows that the damage has been widespread across the metropolitan area with the coastal region being the worst hit.

RAC Insurance Claims Manager Brendan Stocks said the majority of claims were for minor damage with a small number of larger claims for damaged roofs, ceilings and the associated contents.

“Fences damaged by the wind are the most common claims at this point,” Mr Stocks said.

“Our assessors have been working hard to sort through the claims and we urge anyone who has experienced any damage to their property to contact our claims number 13 17 03 or visit our web site at rac.com.au to lodge their claims.”
