Christmas fuel rip-off

22 December 2010

The RAC is urging motorists to fill up their tanks this evening to avoid a sharp rise in petrol prices tomorrow.

The major petrol companies have all joined forces to push prices up with the Perth metro average jumping from 125.5 cents per litre today to 134.1 cents a litre tomorrow.

Some stations will jump their prices by a massive 16 cents a litre overnight.

RAC Head of Member Advocacy Matt Brown says motorists should fill up tonight to avoid the Christmas rip-off.

“There are two things motorists can bank on at Christmas time: Santa will come down the chimney and petrol prices will go up through the roof,” Mr Brown said.

“A 16 cents a litre jump would cost the average motorists an additional $10 to fill up their tank – a nice little Christmas present for the petrol companies.

“When you are heading home tonight, keep an eye out for stations charging today’s average of $1.25 per litre or below.”
