Locally made Territory gets 5-star safety rating

29 January 2010

The Australian-made 2010 Ford Territory has received a 5-star safety rating from the Australasian New Car Assessment Program (ANCAP).

RAC Head of Member Advocacy Matt Brown said the Territory was the first 2010 model to be awarded 5-stars and continued the 2009 trend that saw more emphasis on the manufacture of safer vehicles in all classes.

“Safety should be front of mind for consumers in the market for a new or used car,” Mr Brown said.

“The Territory performed well in previous ANCAP tests but the lack of a passenger seat belt reminder had earlier models awarded 4-stars for safety in 2006. The January 2010 Territory in both 2wd and 4wd has these as standard across the range.

“Ford is now providing 5-star rated vehicles for consumers almost across it full range, this is good news for new car buyers.”

The RAC recommends the purchase of vehicles with a 4 or 5 star safety rating.

ANCAP is supported by all Australian and New Zealand motoring clubs, all Australian state governments, the New Zealand government, the Victorian Transport Accident Commission, NRMA Insurance and the FIA Foundation.
