Eligibility for the discount is determined by whether the car has a combined CO2 output of less than or equal to 150 grams of carbon dioxide per kilometre for emissions testing in the official combined fuel cycle under the Australian Design Rules for emissions and fuel consumption labelling, as specified.
The discount applies to comprehensive motor policies on eligible new and used cars less than five years old, based on year of manufacture. The discount is up to up to 25% (for cars less than 1 year old) and then reduces 5% for each year of vehicle age. For example, a car less than 2 year's old would receive up to a 20% discount. The discount applies from 25 July 2012 for new policies and from 22 August 2012 for renewals.
