4WD recovery techniques training course

Four wheel drive recovery techniques

4WD recovery techniques

There are many situations where a 4WD vehicle can become bogged or disabled to an extent where it can’t be freed under its own power.

This program has been developed to assist anyone who may need the knowledge and skills to overcome these kinds of problems when travelling off road, either in the course of their work or for recreation.

Participants are required to have successfully completed the nationally recognised training package unit SRODRV001B – Drive and Recover a 4WD Vehicle or similar, as a prerequisite. Recognition can be given for some units, where the gaps in learning requirements are covered in this course.

4WD recovery techniques learned in this course are:

  • Operate in a safe and environmentally friendly manner.
  • Identify and control hazards associated with recovery.
  • Recovery techniques.
  • Use vehicle recovery equipment.
  • Co-ordinate and carry out recovery using a snatch strap.
  • Using a winch to recover in different conditions and configurations.
  • Correct and safe use of a jack in various terrain types.
  • Maintenance of all recovery equipment.

Duration: 1 day.

Certificate: On successful completion of this course, the participant will receive a Statement of Attainment for the unit SRODRV003B – Vehicle Recovery Using Advanced Techniques.
