When RAC was founded in 1905, the primary reason was to protect the interests of its motoring members against unfavourable decisions by governments and authorities.
Other activities in the first decade of RAC's existence included the provision of road signs and direction boards, as well as action which resulted in the reduction of the high price of motoring fuel. Throughout our long history we have maintained this dual approach to providing benefits to our members: the provision of direct services combined with advocacy action.
