Join the Indian Pacific: This morning board the Indian Pacific and travel east to Kalgoorlie where you can see the world’s largest open-cut gold mine on an optional Whistle Stop Tour (additional cost). (LD)
DAY 2: MONDAY
Indian Pacific across the Nullarbor: Continue across the desolate Nullarbor Plain and stop at one of the world’s most isolated outposts, Cook, with the chance to meet all seven of the people who live there. (BLD)
DAY 3: TUESDAY
Adelaide: Arrive in Adelaide this morning and make your way to Rydges South Park Adelaide, your base for the next three nights. (B)
DAY 4: WEDNESDAY
Adelaide: From the city to the beach, this morning you will experience the daily cosmopolitan life of Adelaide as you journey through the heart of the city. See iconic cathedrals, the North Terrace cultural boulevard, visit Colonel Light’s Lookout over Adelaide and the world-famous Adelaide Oval. Enjoy a taste of the delicious chocolates at Haigh’s Chocolate Factory before venturing out to Glenelg, the city’s bustling beach. This afternoon is at your leisure.
DAY 5: THURSDAY
Adelaide: Today is free for you to enjoy Adelaide at your leisure. Why not take an optional tour, there are many to choose from.
DAY 6: FRIDAY
Join The Overland: Travel aboard The Overland enjoying the scenery as the train winds its way through the Adelaide Hills and across the Murray River. Travel through Victoria passing the Grampians before arriving at Melbourne’s state-of-the-art Southern Cross Station. On arrival check in to the Batman’s Hill on Collins, your base for the next two nights.
DAY 7: SATURDAY
Melbourne: Experience the beautiful sights of Melbourne this morning. Visit the Fitzroy Gardens with exclusive entry into Captain Cook’s Cottage. Highlights of this tour include Parliament House, Windsor Hotel, Queen Victoria Market, MCG, Rod Laver Arena, Flinders Street Station, Young & Jackson’s Hotel and St Patrick’s Cathedral. Enjoy a stop at the Botanical Gardens and see the Shrine of Remembrance war memorial. Travel past Albert Park’s Grand Prix circuit and over the Westgate Bridge for panoramic views of Melbourne. See Port Phillip Bay, the Yarra River and the Art’s Centre. Finish your tour with a scenic one hour river cruise on the Yarra River, viewing the stunning city skyline. This afternoon is yours at leisure.
DAY 8: SUNDAY
Melbourne and The XPT: Today is free to explore the many wonderful shops, cafes and sights of Melbourne. This evening join The XPT and settle in to your First Class Sleeper as you journey to Sydney.
DAY 9: MONDAY
Sydney: Arrive into Sydney Central Station this morning. Make your way to the Travelodge Sydney where you will stay for the next two nights. Discover the sights of Sydney at your leisure. Why not visit The Rocks or Darling Harbour. (B)
DAY 10: TUESDAY
Sydney: Join the City Hop On – Hop Off tour today. Stay onboard for a 90 minute guided tour of the city or hop on – hop off all day, it’s up to you. Enjoy stunning views over Sydney Cove and Circular Quay, see the Sydney Opera House and visit Milsons Point. Tour through the northern beaches of Freshwater Bay and Curl Curl, stop at the seaside resort of Manly. Visit the Sydney Aquarium, the Harbour Bridge and Opera House.
DAY 11: WEDNESDAY
Join the mighty Indian Pacific: Take in any last minute sights this morning before joining the Indian Pacific. Spend your first night enjoying a delicious dinner along with the panoramic views of the Blue Mountains as you head west through New South Wales into the outback. (D)
DAY 12: THURSDAY
Broken Hill and Adelaide: Explore the unique outback city of Broken Hill on a Whistle Stop Tour before reboarding for the rest of your journey to Adelaide. Your holiday concludes on arrival in Adelaide. (BL)

Red service
Sleeper cabins
Red service offers comfortable, air-conditioned twin share sleeping accommodation to suit a holiday budget. At the start of the journey the red sleeper cabin will comprise two facing lounge chairs that afford splendid views of the outback through a double glazed panoramic window. At night, the chairs convert to snug upper and lower sleeping berths complete with crisp, clean sheets, pillows and quilts.
Red sleeper cabins provide guests with private washing facilities including fresh towels. For convenience, there is a wardrobe, vanity mirror, power outlets, a reading lamp and foldaway tables. Showers and toilets are located at the end of each carriage. Guests travelling alone may be required to share a twin cabin with another guest of the same sex. Guests can also enjoy the comfortable facilities of the red service diner and the newly refurbished red gum lounge.
Day / nighter seats
Red service day / nighter seating is available on the Ghan and Indian Pacific and gives guests the comfort and freedom to enjoy their journey. Seating is in comfortable two-abreast reclining chairs upholstered in pure woollen cloth trim, with individual reading lights. There is generous leg room and the seats can swivel to face each other. Overhead racks cater for hand luggage.
DVD players are available for hire at minimal cost. Showers and toilet facilities are at the end of each carriage with towels and soap provided, and guests can also access the facilities of the red service diner and the newly refurbished red gum lounge for a small fee.
Red service diner
Red service features a bright, cheery diner car where affordable, tasty light meals and drinks may be purchased. Limited special dietary light meals are available on request (advise at time of reservation). The diner and buffet car is fully licensed.
Red gum lounge
Red service guests have access to the newly refurbished red gum lounge. Fitted with comfortable, movable lounge chairs and booth seating the red gum lounges provide the perfect place to enjoy the panoramic window views. Complimentary tea and coffee are available all day, along with complimentary morning tea on applicable journeys. A selection of reading material and a range of games are also provided. Access to the new red gum lounge is included in the ticket price for red service sleeper guests, while those traveling in red service day / nighter seats will pay a small fee to use the facility.
