Motoring advice department

We have qualified staff available to answer queries and provide technical motoring advice to members. You'll receive unbiased information on everything associated with owning and operating a car, including:

  • Car prices, repairs, servicing, parts and accessories, fuel economy, anti-theft devices, disputed garage accounts, towing and general motoring problems.
  • Buying a car, using battery jumper leads, towing, tyre pressures, car running costs, preparing for holidays, car care preventative maintenance.

Traffic advisory service

RAC's Traffic Advisory Service deals with members' enquiries relating to a number of motoring and traffic issues. The department receives between 5,000 and 6,000 enquiries per year via phone, fax, mail and email. While many of the enquiries are in relation to road rules and traffic regulations, there are a large number of inquiries relating to importing and exporting of vehicles, and obligations when involved in an accident.

The Traffic Advisory Service can help members concerns with the following:

  • Road rules and regulations.
  • Advice in relation to accidents and other related motoring enquiries.
  • Rights and responsibilities when purchasing new or used vehicles.
  • New and used car warranty information.
  • International motoring.
  • Documentation for temporary overseas travel with a vehicle (Carnet De Passages En Douane).
  • Personal importation of vehicles and customs formalities.
  • Vehicle valuations.
