This year, three communities across Western Australia came together to make their towns safer, greener, and more connected through a Do-Over, supported by RAC. A Do-Over is a short-term community project that helps people work together to improve local spaces. These projects enable communities to reimagine public areas, bring people together, and create long-lasting improvements.
The people of Ongerup gave Town Hall Park a big makeover. Their goal was to make the town centre safer, greener, and more welcoming. They added new grass, plants, outdoor furniture, lights, and a colourful mural. Streets outside the Ongerup Hotel and Weir Park were made safer for kids and families. New signs told the town’s stories, and extra trees and gardens made the streets brighter and more inviting.
In Geraldton, 50 community members and RAC volunteers worked on 35 projects over one weekend in April. They painted footpath murals, planted trees, added shade structures and bike racks, and brightened empty shopfronts. These projects made people proud of their town, encouraged more walking, and showed how the community can make neglected spaces better.
The Boddington Do-Over brought new life and energy to the town. Volunteers added murals, trees, recycled street furniture, and wayfinding signs to help locals and visitors find historical sites. RAC team members also painted a mural at a busy intersection to remind children to cross safely.
These Do-Overs were funded by RAC and supported by Town Team Movement, local community members, local government, and businesses. They show the power of people working together to make positive change. They also demonstrate how RAC is giving back to the community and helping create safer, connected, and thriving spaces where people want to live, work, and spend time.
