A recent RAC survey asked 712 members about their travel habits. The survey found members want buses and trains that link smoothly to the places they go every day — not just the CBD. For many, simply having stops closer to shops, schools and local activity centres would make public transport a more appealing choice.

While the network has grown in recent years, there are still plenty of possibilities to make public transport the easier option.

Only 17% of people use public transport every week, but there is a clear appetite for change. Half of respondents said they would use public transport more if buses, walking paths and cycle paths were better connected to train stations. More than 40% also said they would be more likely to use public transport if buses were given greater priority, such as through dedicated bus lanes and queue-jumping at traffic lights.

Improving how the whole network links together will help more people choose a safer, cleaner and more affordable way to travel — whether they live in Perth or regional WA.
