Across seven days in May, our team delivered 12 activations across Western Australia, creating thousands of opportunities to connect with the community about the importance of road safety.
RAC supports National Road Safety Week, which was created by the Safer Australian Roads and Highways (SARAH) Group. The important annual initiative highlights the impact of road trauma and ways to reduce it.
Speeding remains a leading cause of road trauma in WA, and even small increases in driving speed can have a huge impact on the outcome of a crash. RAC’s message this year was simple: “Slow down and smell the flowers.” By reducing your speed, you increase your chance of getting home safely.
RAC staff volunteered their time at Westfield Whitford City and Westfield Carousel shopping centres, handing out flowers to represent the lives lost on Western Australian roads and encouraging people to reflect on the importance of getting home safely. These simple but meaningful conversations gave members of the community a moment to stop, reflect, and consider how road safety plays a role in their everyday lives.
RAC also engaged fans at the Walyalup (Fremantle Dockers) versus Euro-Yorke (St Kilda) AFL match and at the Guy Sebastian concert at RAC Arena, with pop-up reminders to keep road safety front of mind during everyday moments.
Extending the campaign even further, RAC Patrols participated in surprise-and-delight activations during patrol callouts across the Perth metropolitan area, distributing flowers and National Road Safety Week air fresheners to members while reinforcing the importance of safe road use.
We also travelled to Margaret River, Cowaramup and Augusta to engage with regional communities, which are often some of the hardest hit by road trauma. Connecting with regional WA remains an important part of our road safety message.

Western Australia recorded 184 road deaths in 2025 and has experienced one of the worst starts to a year for lives lost on our roads. These numbers are a reminder that real and lasting change is urgently needed.
Safer roads depend on all of us. By making safe choices every day — both at work and in our personal lives —
we can help create safer roads for everyone.
While National Road Safety Week is an important time to raise awareness, the work does not stop here. Improving road safety in Western Australia takes ongoing effort, strong partnerships, education, advocacy, and a shared commitment from government, industry, and the community.
Together, we can keep the momentum going. Because every journey should end safely, and everyone deserves to get home safe for the moments that matter.
