As part of our commitment to building safer, sustainable and more connected communities, RAC proudly partnered with Town Team Movement to support the Geraldton Do-Over, held on Friday 11 and Saturday 12 April. The event brought together local residents, artists, businesses, and volunteers for a weekend of creative transformation in Geraldton’s city centre.

A Do-Over is a short-term, place-led community activation project designed to encourage positive, grassroots change through collaborative action. These initiatives are about empowering local communities to reimagine public spaces, foster connection, and set the stage for long-term improvement.

In Geraldton, the Do-Over focused on revitalising Marine Terrace, with more than 50 community members teaming up with RAC volunteers to deliver over 35 impactful projects. The event was also supported by the City of Greater Geraldton and various local organisations that contributed time, resources, and in-kind support.

With RAC’s support, the Geraldton Do-Over brought new colour, energy, and life to the area.

Projects included:
· Vibrant footpath murals connecting key locations and improving walkability
· Tree planting to introduce shade and greenery
· Installation of shade structures and bike racks to encourage active travel
· Beautification of empty shopfront windows to enhance the visual appeal of the CBD

These small but powerful changes have had a significant impact on how the community interacts with its public spaces — and how locals see their city.

Key outcomes include:
· A stronger sense of community pride and ownership
· Greater use of public spaces during both day and night
· New partnerships between artists, businesses, and local groups
· A platform for future revitalisation efforts

The Do-Over also supports RAC’s vision for better-planned, more people-focused places where locals feel safe, empowered, and inspired to contribute. By supporting initiatives like this, RAC helps amplify community voices and turn local ideas into action.

From colourful murals to renewed public spaces, the Geraldton Do-Over has proven how creative collaboration, can make a lasting difference. And it’s only the beginning — community members, artists, and shop owners are already dreaming up what’s next, from night-time activations to even more public art.
