On Tuesday 29 July, 116, Year 5 and 6 students came together at RAC Arena for a day of innovation and learning. They were part of the RAC Imagine Program™ Futures Challenge, a program that asks students to design solutions to real life challenges faced by the community, creating a better future for WA.
The RAC Futures Challenge, designed and delivered in partnership with BOP Industries, asks students to design a transport ‘fleet of the future’ and a transport hub for their community that will help to make WA safer, more sustainable, and better connected.
The hackathon day, held at the RAC Arena, kicked off the term-long, project-based learning program. Over the next few weeks, students will join weekly online masterclasses, conduct research, and use design thinking to help them plan and build their ideas, which will be demonstrated in a final pitch video.
To help these young innovative minds develop their ideas, five passionate RAC mentors joined the program to support the students, providing an opportunity to learn from industry experts. These mentors will engage with students throughout the program to help turn their ideas into bold, practical concepts that reflect RAC’s commitment to building a better WA.
The final projects will be reviewed by an RAC panel and students will celebrate their achievements at an award breakfast at the end of the program.
This program is one way RAC is helping to build a safer, sustainable, and connected future. It empowers students and shows how learning, teamwork, and support from mentors can help young people drive meaningful change.
