On Sunday 14 September, the Fremantle Dockers and West Coast Eagles went head-to-head at Fremantle Community Bank Oval for the AFLW RAC Derby. Despite the gloomy weather, fans filled the stands, with many more watching from home to enjoy one of WA’s most iconic sporting rivalries.
As naming rights partner, RAC used the match to share an important road safety message: Change your speed, change your outcome. In 2024, 188 people died on WA roads — the highest number in almost ten years, and this year is tracking to be even worse. Speeding is one of the biggest causes of crashes, and even small increases in speed can make a crash much more serious. RAC is asking all drivers to make safer choices so everyone can get home to their families.
Kids received free Road Safety Activity Books and colouring pencils, helping to share the safe driving message with young fans too.
On the field, the Dockers came out on top and proudly lifted the RAC Derby Trophy, presented by RAC’s General Manager of Community Impact, Sharon Rowse.
Fans can visit the RAC Derby webpage to hear from ambassadors Ange Stannett (Fremantle Dockers) and Emma Swanson (West Coast Eagles), who remind us that road safety is a team effort — and every decision on the road counts.
