A new reason to pull off the highway in Capel has arrived, with Capel Marron Farm opening as a pond-to-plate dining destination in the South West.

Overlooking its working marron ponds, the venue offers a relaxed dining experience centred on fresh, locally grown marron and seasonal WA produce. Visitors can enjoy a long lunch by the water while gaining insight into how this iconic delicacy is farmed.

A top-down view of a seafood platter served on a large oval silver tray, set on a wooden table. The platter includes split grilled marron (crayfish), four fresh oysters on the half shell, a bowl of green salad, crispy polenta chips, slices of toasted garlic bread, and small seafood bites on crackers. Surrounding the tray is a black pot filled with steamed mussels, a bowl of french fries with ketchup, a glass of white wine, and a glass of beer.

Marron, fresh from the farm, sits at the centre of the menu, alongside dishes such as Geraldton rock lobster, beer- and miso-braised lamb ribs, and smoked Murray cod tostadas, paired with wines from the South West region.

Established in 1988, the farm has long played a role in WA’s marron industry, supplying markets both locally and internationally. That connection to place continues through the use of existing farm structures and recycled timber from the old Fremantle Jetty.

An interactive discovery centre is set to be introduced in the coming months, adding viewing tanks and close-up encounters designed to showcase the marron farming process.

Located at 313 Goodwood Road, Capel, the farm is open Thursday to Sunday, making it an easy and worthwhile stop on a South West road trip.
