Esperance may be known for its incredible beaches, but a new project is set to draw visitors beyond the shoreline and into the stories that shape the region.
Following in the footsteps of the much-loved Giants of Mandurah, plans are underway for a large-scale sculpture trail that will weave contemporary art throughout Esperance's landscapes.
Led by FORM Building a State of Creativity and supported by a $6 million Lotterywest grant, the Esperance Sculpture Trail will feature a series of artworks across the region, each responding to the area’s land, sea and cultural identity. The trail is designed to guide visitors beyond the well-known sites and into places they might not typically discover on their own.
What sets the trail apart is the depth of local involvement. Shaped through more than 15 months of consultation with over 500 community members, the trail has been designed with strong local input, from proposed locations to the stories behind each piece. Rather than a single-stop attraction, it encourages a slower, more exploratory way of experiencing the region.
Cultural storytelling sits at the heart of the trail, with the voices of the Wudjari Noongar people of Kepa Kurl guiding the narrative. Artists will work closely with the community to ensure each work is grounded in place and reflects authentic local perspectives
Expected to launch by mid-2027, the trail will offer a new way to experience Esperance all year-round, inviting visitors to slow down and connect with the region beyond the iconic beaches.
