A new elevated walkway offering sweeping views across Glen Brook and the surrounding granite outcrops has officially opened in the John Forrest National Park.

Stretching 250 metres, the new Glen Brook walkway is built from reclaimed spotted gum and corten steel, and gives visitors a unique way to experience WA's oldest national park.

Located just a 30-minute drive from Perth, John Forrest National Park is an iconic destination in the Perth Hills, known for its waterfalls, heritage trails and the spooky Swan View Tunnel.

During winter and spring, the park comes alive with Hovea Falls flowing, wildflowers blooming, and hikers and mountain bikers hitting the trails.

The walkway forms part of a major transformation project underway within the park, aimed at improving visitor facilities and creating a new central hub for recreation and tourism.

Construction is about to begin on the West Ridge plaza - a welcoming entry point next to the redeveloped West Ridge carpark, featuring landscaped gathering spaces, seating, bike racks and maintenance stations and a sheltered main trailhead. The plaza is expected to open in early 2027, and will connect to the new walkway.

The broader redevelopment also includes a new Park Hub featuring a café and interpretation space, upgrades to picnic and barbecue areas, landscaped gardens, improved parking and expanded walking and off-road cycling trails.

For now, the elevated walkway is accessible from the eastern side only, via a temporary ramp and short access trail off the Glen Brook Trail, while construction begins on the future West Ridge plaza.
