What's on in Perth this Halloween

Aside from creepy costume creations, pumpkin carving and neighbourhood trick or treating, Halloween can be a great excuse for a fun family day out.

Here are six spooky events to check out around Perth this Halloween.

1. Spookiaco

Location: Across Subiaco — Market Square Park, Rokeby Road, and surrounding laneways
Dates: 30 October-1 November

Things are getting spooky around the streets of Subiaco with the first-ever Spookiaco celebration.

The three-day festival promises spooky fun, monstrous mischief and Halloween happenings for all ages, with local businesses getting into the spirit with Halloween specials, best-dressed competitions, themed menus and pop-up activities.

On Halloween evening, the Subi Fright Market will serve up ghoulish treats and spooky entertainment, while Oh Hey WA will lead haunted walking tours filled with ghostly tales.

Over at Market Square Park, MONSTERS CAN’T FLY, a colourful new installation by acclaimed artist Matthew Aberline, will take over the space from October 30 to November 8.

2. Halloween Twilight Perth Makers Market

Location: Burswood Park, Burswood
Date: Saturday 31 October
Time: 4-9pm
Cost: Free

Head to Burswood Park this Halloween for an evening of trick-or-treating, live music, food and more than 80 market stalls.

There’ll be plenty to keep the little ones entertained, including free face painting, fortune tellers, Halloween-themed entertainment and a scavenger hunt.

Of course, dressing up is encouraged. Don your most frightening outfit for the best-dressed competition, or bring your four-legged friend along in costume for the doggy costume competition, with a $50 market voucher up for grabs.

3. Ghoulfest

Location: Optus Stadium, Burswood
Date: Saturday 31 October
Time: 11am-6pm
Cost: $0-$17

Optus Stadium is set to transform into a giant Halloween playground for the first-ever Ghoulfest, with trick-or-treating, entertainment and plenty of spooky activities for all ages.

The festival will feature more than 180 vendors selling trading cards, collectibles, art, clothing, plushies and more. There’ll also be live DJs, cosplayers, roaming spooky characters and photo booths.

Kids can head to the Kids Zone for a ball pit, bounce houses, face painting, a Pokémon trail, trick-or-treat candy trail and mermaid hair braiding.

There are also workshops for budding adventurers, including sessions on how to play Dungeons & Dragons and miniature painting.

And, naturally, there’ll be plenty of sweet treats on offer, including bubble tea, fairy floss, popcorn and donuts.

Children under 12 can attend for free.

4. Boo at the Zoo

Location: Perth Zoo, South Perth
Dates: 30-31 October
Time: 4-8pm
Cost: $38+ booking fee per person (two years and older)

Swap your neighbourhood trick-or-treating for an after-hours adventure at Boo at the Zoo.

On Friday, October 30 and Saturday, October 31, families can dress up in their favourite costumes and explore the zoo after dark, with trick-or-treat stations, roving entertainers, face painting, scare-ousel rides, music, dancing and plenty of Halloween fun.

There’ll also be extended animal viewing until 6pm, giving families a rare chance to see some of their favourite animals after hours.

5. Halloween Night Sky Tour

Location: Perth Observatory, Bickley

For something a little different this Halloween, head to the Perth Observatory for a spooky night under the stars.

Dress up in your best Halloween costume for an evening of frights, celestial wonders and the chance to win prizes in the best-dressed adult and children’s competitions.

Perth Observatory volunteers will take visitors on a tour of the Southern Hemisphere’s night sky, showcasing ghostly objects and other celestial sights, all while getting into the Halloween spirit themselves.

6. Halloween Family Challenge

Location: City of Gosnells Museum, 34 Homestead Rd, Gosnells

Known for its haunted buildings and ghost tours, the City of Gosnells is getting into the Halloween spirit with a family-friendly challenge at the museum.

Put your problem-solving skills to the test as you tackle a series of Halloween-themed challenges along a trail of games, crafts and puzzles.

Costumes and curiosity are encouraged, making this a fun option for families looking for a daytime Halloween activity.

Challenge sessions are available at 10am and 11.30am, with bookings available online.
