West Aussies will soon have two new direct flight options to some of Australia's most scenic destinations — the Hunter Valley region in NSW and Tasmania's vibrant capital.
Starting September 8, QantasLink will launch its first-ever non-stop service from Perth to Newcastle, operating three times a week. The five-hour flight means travellers can skip the long layovers and spend more time exploring the laid-back city and its surroundings, known for its wine, rich history and beautiful beaches.
What does a weekend in Australia's second-oldest city look like? A surf at Mereweather Beach, a scenic stroll along the ANZAC Memorial Walk, a visit to the historic Nobby's Lighthouse, plus a side of shopping, street art spotting, and wining and dining.
Just a one-hour-drive from Newcastle is the renowned Hunter Valley region, where sunrise hot air ballooning, cellar door wine tastings, gourmet long lunches and cooking classes are all on the cards.
Also taking off this spring is the direct route from Perth to Hobart, commencing September 26. The service is back in business after it stopped operating in 2023.
This four-hour flight will run three times a week during most months of the year, connecting West Aussies directly to the island famous for its history, hiking trails and flavour-packed foodie scene.
From exploring MONA (the Museum of Old and New Art) to hiking Cradle Mountain, photographing Wineglass Bay, or stepping into the past at Port Arthur, there's no shortage of must-do experiences in Tasmania.
If you’re hanging around Hobart, be sure to head up to Mount Wellington for panoramic views, take a boat trip to Bruny Island for the incredible wildlife, and explore the city's tiny bars, bustling markets and waterfront restaurants.
