Get out and about with the kids to enjoy the wintery weather or cosy up indoors at an exhibit or workshop. We’ve scoped out the best of both worlds in this round-up of winter school holiday activities.
1. School’s Out Winter Fest
Experience the magic of snow at this unmissable indoor winter playground. Held at the Perth Convention & Exhibition Centre, School’s Out Winter Fest is an impressive winter carnival, with everything from snowball fights and ice skating to indoor rides and a silent disco.
There’s something on offer for toddlers to teens. Bundle the kids up and forge some core memories in the snow.

2. Dinos Alive
Dinos Alive is a non-negotiable for dinosaur-kids these July school holidays. This immersive experience features several life-sized animated dinosaurs, which kids can get close and personal with as they wander through the exhibit’s halls and caverns. The exhibit also includes a Jurassic jungle VR experience and an interactive virtual aquarium teeming with ancient marine life.

3. Freo Builds Lego Trail
It doesn’t get much better than a LEGO® treasure hunt. Follow the Films in Fremantle LEGO® trail and discover several local landmarks reimagined by WA kids and built in LEGO®. Start at Fremantle Town Hall or WA Maritime Museum, where you’ll collect your map and set off on your hunt.
There’s a bonus LEGO® toy for each child, as well as some great prizes to be won.

4. Lightscape
Lightscape returns for another year of luminescent wonder at Kings Park. This gorgeous display of light installations features 20 works by local and international artists. Look out for towering flowers and giant bush blossoms nestled amongst the trees. Top off this wintery experience with toasted marshmallows and other warming delights at the food and drink stalls.

5. Terracotta Warriors Legacy of the First Emperor
Visit WA Museum Boola Bardip these school holidays for a rare glimpse into life in ancient China. The exhibit’s star attraction—the 2,000 year old Terracotta Warriors—are on display alongside hundreds of other Chinese artefacts.
Littlies who may find the exhibit a bit dry can learn through play at the free Ancient China Activity Zone, which will run throughout the July school holidays. Amateur archaeologists can sign up for the Adventures in Archaeology workshop—a drop and leave program that includes hands-on excavation and a history lesson on the Terracotta Warriors.

6. Celebrate NAIDOC week
Join in the celebrations at NAIDOC Week Family Fun Day run by WA Maritime Museum on Tuesday 8 July. There will be a range of activities on the day, including a collective canvas painting project with Whadjuk Nyoongar artist Julianne Wade, NAIDOC friendship band beading, and a special performance by Yirra Yaakin Theatre Company.

7. Spare Parts Puppet Theatre presents Beanstalk
Fee-fi-fo-fun! It's Jack and the Beanstalk, but not as you know it. This re-imagined classic follows the trials and tribulations of the tale’s antagonist—the giant—and his not-so-easy life as a big person in a small world.
This is a great show for all ages and audiences, with special relaxed performances for a low-sensory experience, as well as Auslan interpreted performances.
Location: Ellie Eaton Theatre, Claremont Showground
Dates: Saturday 5 July - Saturday 19 July 2025. No performances on Sundays.

8. School holiday ballet workshops
Aspiring dancers will love practicing their plies at this school holiday ballet workshop run by two former West Australian Ballet Dancers. The 1-hour class is designed for 7–12-year-old dancers to practice their ballet skills or just keep dancing through the holiday period.
Parents can stay and watch or chill out in the lovely heritage foyer. There are also kids’ activities to keep younger siblings occupied during the class.

9. Art of Banksy: “Without Limits”
This international exhibition has drawn crowds from all over the world, showing more than 200 of Banksy’s works. Art of Banksy: “Without Limits” features prints, photos, and sculptures, as well as an infinity room, a simulation of Dismaland (the artist’s largest work), and several originals.

Dates: 29 May – 29 August 2025
Time: Scheduled 60-minute sessions starting at 2:00pm. Last session at 7:00pm.
Cost: Child $28, Student $31, Adult $41. Family passes $31.
10. Claymation Studio: Animating Adventures
Budding animators can learn the art of claymation at this one-day workshop run by WA Museum Boola Bardip. The workshop will guide kids through storyboarding and modelling to using software to bring their films to life. The workshop is part of the museum’s drop-and-leave school holiday program, so parents can enjoy a little time off while the kids learn a new skill. Designed for kids aged 8-12.
