There’s a familiar feeling that hits on arrival in Karijini National Park, awe, certainly, but also a touch of overwhelm. After the long drive or flight, the gorges are calling, the light is fading, and you’re not quite sure where to begin. That’s exactly the gap the new sunset tour, “Arrival to Karijini,” is designed to fill.

Departing daily at 5pm from Karijini Eco Retreat, the two-hour guided experience gently eases first-time visitors into the landscape. Led by The Hike Collective in partnership with the retreat, the sunset walk to Joffre Gorge covers roughly 2km.

Along the way, guides introduce guests to the terrain, demonstrate safe gorge descent techniques, and explain how to navigate the park with confidence.

At the lookout, the gorges are playfully introduced as characters, “The Graceful Princess”, “The Daredevil”, and “The Free Spirit”, helping visitors shape a personalised itinerary for the days ahead.

As the sun sets, the 2.5-billion-year-old rock formations are cast in deep amber and red tones, while guests are served champagne. The experience continues with a guided return walk beneath an increasingly star-filled sky, where guides share insights into the region’s cultural stories and highlight key constellations visible in one of Australia’s clearest night skies. An optional burger dinner concludes the experience.

Priced at $95 per person and suitable for families and all fitness levels, the experience transforms what’s often a wasted first evening into a grounding introduction to country.

For those seeking deeper immersion, The Hike Collective also delivers “The Karijini Journey” - a four-night, five-day all-inclusive guided adventure through Karijini’s most iconic gorges, swimming holes and a sunrise summit of Mt Bruce. The tour includes accommodation at Karijini Eco Retreat, all meals, daily guided hikes, and mindfulness and journaling practices to help you connect with the landscape.
