If you’ve not been to Onslow and the Mackerel Islands, now is the time to go.

The region’s beautiful untouched landscape offers a classical northwestern Australian experience – a unique coastal expression of the Pilbara, where rugged adventure meets isolation at its most splendid.

Onslow is 80kms off the North-West Coastal Highway and is easily reached via Exmouth, Karratha, Carnarvon and Karijini National Park.

Here you’ll find a pretty coastal town with its share of unique history, and right in the heart of the coast is the Onslow Beach Resort – a sparkling new establishment complete with spacious accommodation, an ocean-front restaurant, and bar and function centre.

Whether you’re a resort guest, local resident, passer-by or weary traveller, you’ll be impressed by the combination of relaxed sophistication and outstanding service delivered by their dedicated team.

From Onslow, it takes up to 45 minutes to reach the Mackerel Islands.

Of the 10 islands that make up the Mackerels group, only two of these captivating islands welcome guests – Direction Island and Thevenard Island.

Here you can enjoy the best of civilisation – warm hospitality, hot showers, cold beverages, comfortable accommodation – with none of the distractions.

This vast, raw environment offers an opportunity to reconnect with those who matter most and be with nature at its finest. Watch sea turtles haul themselves up the beach to lay eggs, admire the kaleidoscope of fish amongst the coral while you snorkel, or wrestle in a Spanish Mackerel from the Pilbara’s fishiest waters.

The islands truly offer world-class fishing and diving – the fish are huge and much of the marine life has never been in contact with a human being! The islands and accommodation you experience today are imbued with a group of colourful souls who had passion, determination and vision to bring coastal Onslow and the Mackerel Islands to the world. Through manual toil, persistence and love of the region’s unique beauty, a visit to Onslow and the Mackerel Islands is now a complete experience with an array of attractions, services and accommodation types to suit anyone.

Reconnect with nature by discovering the Mackerel Islands. RAC members save 10% when they mention their membership and show their card at check in at the Onslow Beach Resort. To learn more about The Mackerel Islands, Onslow and the rest of the Pilbara visit Australia’s North West.
