For years, Trails WA has been the go-to source for discovering Western Australia’s official trails, helping walkers, hikers, cyclists and paddlers plan everything from local outings to regional adventures through its online trail directory.
Now, that trusted information has been brought together in a free mobile app, making it easier to discover, navigate and experience more than 1,100 official trails wherever your next adventure takes you.
Developed by Trails WA with support from Lotterywest and the WA Government, the app combines official trail information, GPS navigation, downloadable offline maps, safety information and trail alerts in one place.
But the app is about more than simply finding your way. Selected trails feature Aboriginal cultural stories and connection to Country, alongside information about local flora and fauna, geological landscapes and Western Australia’s growing collection of dark sky and astrotourism locations, helping visitors gain a deeper understanding of the places they explore.
Trails WA Chairperson Suzanne Hillier says the platform offers more than just navigation, helping people connect more deeply with the places they visit.
It brings together accurate mapping, cultural content and environmental knowledge to create a richer and more meaningful experience while on trail.
The app also encourages users to look beyond the trail itself, connecting them with nearby trail-friendly businesses and destinations and making it easier to extend a morning walk into a day trip or a weekend away.
Importantly, the app is free to download, making one of Western Australia’s most affordable outdoor experiences even more accessible.
