RAC members plant more than 15,000 native seedlings

Over four tree planting days, about 250 RAC members and 120 RAC staff and their families worked together to help restore the Thornlie Nature Trail. Their hard work will help local plants and animals and improve the area for the community.

At our last member tree planting day, members planted 5,000 native seedlings in one morning. This followed another successful event earlier in the season, where members also planted 5,000 seedlings.

Each year, in partnership with Armadale Gosnells Landcare Group, RAC works side-by-side with the local community group to deliver multiple planting events. This year’s tree planting season, contributed a diverse mix of native trees and shrubs, including swamp banksias, lemon-scented myrtle, swamp peppermint, hakeas, purple flag and robin redbreast bush.

These plants will give food and shelter to local animals such as possums, wood ducks, gilgies, south-western snake-necked turtles and slender tree frogs.

There was plenty more to enjoy beyond planting. On the day, members were treated to guided nature walks, giveaways, games, coffee, pizza and a behind the scenes look inside an RAC EV Patrol vehicle.

The planting is part of the Thornlie Nature Trail Stage 2 project. Colleen Egan MLA, Member for Thornlie, joined volunteers at one of the planting days to support the project.

At RAC, we want to help build a better future for Western Australia. Working with local community groups gives our members the chance to care for the environment while spending time with family, friends and other members.

Thank you to everyone who joined us this season. Together, you've planted more than 15,300 native seedlings. These plants will grow over the coming years and help create a healthier home for local wildlife.
