For many Perth locals, an ideal weekend involves a cup of coffee, a walk and a canvas bag filled to the brim with fresh local produce.

Offering an array of fruit, vegetables, bread, preserves and more gourmet goodies, Perth’s farmers' market scene is flourishing, and sees thousands of locals flock to primary schools, parks and makeshift market areas every weekend. Or for those who prefer the night market scene, there are also plenty of Perth hawkers' markets to enjoy.

So, it’s time to grab the shopping list and check out 11 of our favourite farmers' markets in and around Perth.

1. Subi Farmers' Market

Opening days and hours:

Every Saturday, 8am to 12pm

Location: Subiaco Primary School
Great for: Delicious breakfasts and live local entertainment

The Subi Farmers' Market is one of the oldest farmers market in WA, and was established to create opportunities for local and regional producers. The market is popular for its delicious breakfast options, local live entertainment and generous spread of fresh fruit, vegetables, preserves, breads, condiments and other food products. There are over 80 stalls to choose from, and plenty of shady spots to sit under while you tuck into Moroccan shakshuka, gourmet crumpets or Spanish breakfast tapas.

2. Kalamunda Farmers' Market

Opening days and hours:

Every Sunday, 8am to 12pm

Location: Central Mall, Kalamunda
Great for: Gluten-free goods, season fruit and vegetables 

If you’re eager to spend a morning in the hills, head to the Kalamunda Farmers' Market. Once you arrive, take your pick from the market’s enormous array of seasonal fruit and vegetables, free-range eggs, organic meat, naturally fermented sourdough, preserves, pastries, gluten-free baked goods and more.

The market also sells handy packets of spice mixes, potted plants and handmade soaps and natural beauty products.

3. Kyilla Community Farmers' Market

Opening days and hours:

Every Saturday, 8am to 11:30am

Location: Kyilla Park, North Perth
Great for: Bacon and egg rolls, fresh herbs and other produce

The Kyllia Primary School’s parent committee originally started this community farmers' market to bring school families together, but today, it’s a popular weekly market that is open to the wider community and filled to the brim with fresh produce. Along with fresh fruit and vegetables, the market is also a go-to spot for baked goods, flowers, fresh herbs, seafood, eggs and much more. The student-run bacon and egg roll stall is also worth a visit.

4. Farmers' Market on Manning

Opening days and hours:

Every Saturday, 7:30am to 12:30pm

Location: George Burnett Park, Karawara
Great for: Christmas cake (during the festive season), gourmet goods and plenty of breakfast options

Situated under towering pine trees, the popular Farmers' Market on Manning has plenty of free parking, manicured rose beds, and most importantly, plenty of fresh produce for locals to stock up on. The gourmet goods on offer range from organic olive oils, fresh seasonal fruit and vegetables and artisan butters to organic teas, farm fresh eggs and delicious chutneys. And if you arrive hungry, there are plenty of breakfast options, including bratwurst, crepes, scrolls, pastries and fresh scones on offer.

If you’re planning a visit during the festive season, be sure to pick up a portion of the market’s popular Christmas cake or pudding. And depending on when you visit, you may also be able to purchase your very own Christmas tree from one of the market's seasonal stall holders.

5. SJ Farmers' Market

Opening days and hours:

Every Saturday, 8am to 12pm

Location: Paterson Road in Mundijong
Great for: Local fruit and vegetables

Managed by the Serpentine Jarrahdale Food and Farm Alliance Inc (a not-for-profit organisation) the SJ Farmers' Market brings together super fresh produce from producers in the Serpentine and Jarrahdale region and other growing areas around the Peel region.

After you've picked your produce, grab something for breakfast and browse through the stalls full of other goodies from local makers. The SJ Farmers' Market is held every Saturday from 8am to 12pm in front of the SJ Community Centre, at 2 Paterson Road in Mundijong. 

6. Mount Claremont Farmers' Market

Opening days and hours:

Every Saturday, 7:30am to 11:30am

Location: Mount Claremont Primary School
Great for: Japanese pancakes, Nitro cold brew coffee and farmstead cheeses

Open rain, hail or shine, the Mount Claremont Farmers' Market has been running since 2007, and features a whopping 55 stalls selling sustainable produce and locally made products. Selling everything from heirloom vegetables and fresh herbs to farmstead cheeses and freshly picked fruits, it’s the perfect spot for filling up your pantry. The market is very vegan, paleo, gluten free and dairy free-friendly, with a range of granola, specialty bread, natural nut butters and cakes that suit all dietary requirements.

Besides the plentiful produce, the market is also a popular spot for breakfast goers. There’s plenty of delicious food on offer, including gourmet toasties, breakfast wraps, Japanese pancakes and savoury crepes. And when it comes to caffeine, the market’s Nitro cold brew is a must-try for Perth coffee enthusiasts.

7. Freo Farmers' Market

Opening days and hours:

Every Sunday, 8am to 12pm

Location: Bruce Lee Oval, Beaconsfield
Great for: Fresh produce, eco-friendly shopping and plenty of plants

The relaxed Freo Farmers' Market is sheltered, plastic-free and packed with stalls, activities and live entertainment. Featuring goods from local farmers, producers, small businesses and local artisans, this market is the perfect spot to stock up on fresh goods and products before enjoying a coffee under the shade of the trees.

It’s also one of the best farmers' markets in Perth for kids, as there’s an animal farm, face painting and eco-friendly craft workshops on offer each week. There are extra market dates over the school holidays, so keep an eye on the Freo Farmers' Market Facebook page for more information.

8. Perth City Farm Farmers' Market

Opening days and hours:

Every Saturday, 8am to 12pm (winter) or 7:30am to 11:30am (summer)

Location: Perth City Farm, Perth CBD
Great for: Fresh produce, sustainable shoppers, health foods and eco-friendly products

The popular Perth City Farm market space attracts a range of organic and biodynamic growers and producers – perfect for shoppers passionate about ethical and sustainable produce. This weekly market takes place in the farm’s lush green courtyard, and features a range of stall holders who sell free-range eggs, unrefined honey, health foods, spray-free fruit and vegetables and other goods including organic clothing, homemade lotions and eco-friendly baby care products.

One of the farm’s most popular event is the Twilight Market, held on select Wednesday evenings from 4:30pm. Showcasing an array of local food stalls and vans, these markets have a strong focus on organic, vegan and vegetarian food, and also feature local stall holders selling crafts, beauty products and household items. The best part? It’s dog-friendly, and only costs a gold coin donation to enter. Check the Perth City Farm Facebook page for dates.

9. Palmyra Western Farmers' Market

Opening days and hours:

Every Sunday, 8am to 12pm

Location: Palmyra Primary School
Great for: Seafood, native seedlings, fresh breakfasts and freshly-squeezed juices

If you’re eager to shop for a cause, head to the thriving Palmyra Western Farmers' Market. Proceeds from this weekly market fund the Kitchen Garden Program, allowing students at the Palmyra Primary School to grow, cook and produce food as part of their curriculum.

Produce at the market is plentiful, and includes seafood, honey, pickles, preserves, organic bread, homemade pasta, flowers, native seedlings and more. And if you’re feeling peckish, they also house stalls cooking up gozleme, curries, breakfast burgers and crepes – best enjoyed with a coffee or freshly squeezed juice.

10. Kingsway Community Market

Opening days and hours:

Every Saturday, 8am to 12pm

Location: 34 Bellerive Boulevard, Madeley
Great for: Baked goods, food trucks and kids' games like giant Jenga and totem tennis

Operating for just over two years, the Kingsway Community Market sits on picturesque sporting fields amongst shady trees and offers a wide range of fresh produce, meats, baked goods, flowers, plants and other gourmet stalls. The first Saturday of each month is 'Super Saturday', with around 45 stalls and a different theme each month.

There's also a special fortnightly night market each Wednesday, which features 10 food trucks, 10 gift stalls and a DJ. 

11. Hillarys Community Market

Opening days and hours:

Sunday mornings, 8am to 12pm

Location: Hillarys Marina Lake Northside Drive, Hillarys
Great for: Fresh produce, breakfast, coffee, gift stalls, gourmet food

This new market, open from 5 November 2023, will run each Sunday in this leafty parkland by the beach and right next door to bustling Hillarys Boat Harbour.

Pick up everything from fresh fruit and veg to groumet meats, bakery goodies and pet treats. Relax and enjoy some breakfast after you shop while the kids keep busy in the playground.
