This September, RAC is supporting Rural Road Safety Month, a national campaign run by the Australian Road Safety Foundation. The month aims to raise awareness about the dangers on regional roads and remind drivers to make safer choices.
Speeding remains a leading cause of road trauma in WA, and even small increases in driving speed can have a huge impact on the outcome of a crash. RAC’s message this year is simple: “Slow down and smell the flowers.” By reducing your speed, you can change the outcome and increase your chance of getting home safely.
To share this message, RAC is handing out 15,000 air fresheners, cards and signs across our regional network, including RAC Parks & Resorts, Member Service Centres and Auto Service Centres. Be sure to stop by and grab one while they last!
Families visiting RAC Parks & Resorts, Member Service Centres and Auto Service Centres can also pick up a fun RAC road safety activity book and pencils - perfect for helping kids learn about staying safe on the roads while they play and create. It’s a great way to spark important conversations from a young age, all while enjoying some colourful fun!
The message is an important one. Between 2020 and 2024, 528 lives were lost on WA’s regional roads. That is almost nine people every month. Each life lost is someone’s family member or friend. This Rural Road Safety Month, RAC is encouraging everyone to slow down, take care and help make sure we all get home safe.
