You might recognise the landscape, the town or even a stretch of road, but seeing familiar parts of WA on the big screen is always a thrill.
This spring, On Location brings a run of Sunday screenings to The Backlot Perth, showcasing films made in or inspired by Western Australia. And as a bonus, 50 free tickets are available for each screening on a first-come, first-served basis.
On Location is proudly presented by The Backlot Perth and RAC - providing insurance that’s here for you in WA, everyday. The series covers a broad slice of WA, with films taking audiences from the Great Southern and Margaret River to the Pilbara, Albany, Perth and Fremantle.
The series kicks off on Sunday 6 September with Rams, starring Sam Neill and Michael Caton. Set in the Great Southern town of Mount Barker, the film follows two sheep-farming brothers whose decades-long feud is put to the test when disaster strikes their flocks.
Next is Drift on 13 September, filmed in Margaret River and starring Myles Pollard, Xavier Samuel and Sam Worthington. The story follows two brothers chasing their dream of building a surfboard business.
On 20 September, Sweet As takes audiences north to the Pilbara. Starring Shantae Barnes-Cowan, Tasma Walton and Carlos Sanson Jr., the coming-of-age film follows an Indigenous teenager who discovers photography during a youth trip through WA.
The line-up continues with H is for Happiness on 4 October, filmed in Albany, before Three Summers depicts a fictional Western Australian folk festival on 11 October.
There's more WA cinema to come, with Red Dog bringing the Pilbara to the screen, followed by How to Please a Women, filmed around Perth and Fremantle. The final screening heads to Fremantle on 1 November with Last Train to Freo, a tense story that unfolds aboard a late-night train travelling from Midland to Fremantle.
Whether you know these places well or have never been, there's something special about seeing WA landscapes and stories play out on the big screen. And with 50 free tickets available at every screening, it's a good excuse to make a Sunday night of it.
