North vs south

Are you north or south of the river? This may very well be one of the first questions that crops up in any Perth-based conversation.

We all identify ourselves as either a staunch north or south-sider and so this suburban rivalry continues to produce good-humoured debate over which side is better. So, we thought we’d add our own spin on it.

When looking at our vehicle claims data in the past financial year, drivers in the northern suburbs of Perth had 18% more claims than drivers south of the river.

However, the worst performing suburb was actually south of the river, with 16 in every 100 members in Bentley making a claim.

And if you really want to get into the nitty gritty details, you’re in luck! We’ve listed the suburbs located within the top 5 postcodes for motor insurance claims for you:

1. Bentley (SOR)

2. Osborne Park and Herdsman (NOR)

3. Highgate (NOR)

4. Cottesloe and Peppermint Grove (NOR)

5. Dalkeith and Nedlands (NOR)

On the other hand, the suburbs within the 5 postcodes with the least amount of motor insurance claims were:

1. Gnangara (NOR)

2. Kingsley and Woodvale (NOR)

3. Beldon, Connolly, Edgewater, Heathridge, Joondalup, Mullaloo and Ocean Reef (NOR)

4. Ashfield, Bassendean and Eden Hill (NOR)

5. Craigie, Hillarys, Kallaroo and Padbury (NOR)

To make this a fair debate, we looked at our data using postcodes where we have 300+ policies to ensure we are not over-representing areas with smaller numbers of members.

As to why these are the top claim-making suburbs, well, that’s for you to speculate and keep the age-old debate alive.
