Twenty new road safety cameras will be used to enforce school zone speed limits around schools in WA that have been identified as high-risk for speeding.
The cameras will operate during public school terms, from 7.30am to 9am and 2.30pm to 4pm, when 40km/h speed limits apply. Infringement notices will begin to be issued in late July when term 3 commences.
The semi-fixed, relocatable road safety cameras are the first of their kind in the state and are part of a broader network of fixed and mobile cameras being used in various high-risk locations around the state, including on freeways and major highways and at signalised intersections.
Schools identified for the cameras include Court Grammar School, Maida Vale Primary School, Banksia Grove Primary School, and Hale School.
The 20 safety cameras will remain in place for an extended period but can be moved as needed to different school zones to respond to areas of higher risks. They will be deployed across 100 school zone locations in total.
The cameras are part of a suite of measures being implemented to ensure safer speeds are maintained around schools, including upgraded electronic school zone signage.
