After a three-year hiatus, the Augusta Whalesong Festival is returning for four days of community celebrations, live entertainment and coastal fun.

Running across the WA Day long weekend from 29 May to 1 June, the festival celebrates the annual arrival of humpback whales to Flinders Bay, along with the unique marine life and biodiversity of Augusta and the South West.

Welcome to Country at event with children and community members and microphones outdoors on grass.

The festivities begin with an opening ceremony beside the new Men’s Shed Whale Tail sculpture on the Blackwood River foreshore, before the celebrations continue that evening with the Whalesong Frolic Cocktail Party.

Across the long weekend, the town will come alive with live music, market stalls, face painting, sand sculptures, a community mural project and even yoga sessions set to whale song.

There are also several ticketed experiences on offer, including the Leeuwin Biddi Guided Walk and Sundowner, while a free screening of Ocean with David Attenborough is expected to be a popular drawcard — so organisers recommend booking early.

Visitors can pick up a free Whalesong Festival map to explore activities happening throughout town, while kids can take part in a colouring competition and collect stamps in a special festival passport to redeem free goodies from participating businesses and community groups.
