Fremantle’s historic streets, parks and waterfront will transform into an open-air playground this Easter long weekend, as the 26th annual Fremantle International Street Arts Festival returns from 3–6 April.
Across four days, the port city will host more than 160 free, family-friendly performances, making it the largest street arts festival in Australasia.
Expect flying acrobats, street comedians, jaw-dropping circus acts, roaming puppets and breathtaking aerial performances popping up across the precinct.
Artists from around the world — including the UK, France, China, Japan, Spain, the USA and Chile — will join a strong lineup of local and national talent.
Highlights include the Australian premiere of Surcouf by France’s Cie Sacékripa at Fishing Boat Harbour, a comically absurd circus show performed on a wobbly water raft. Esplanade Park will come alive with a powerful Noongar performance by Karla Hart Productions, featuring striking fire artistry, while playful chaos takes over the cappuccino strip with larger-than-life roaming puppets, The Occulus and The Skull Squires.
Families are well catered for, with kid-friendly fun including a Foam Party at the Old Courthouse, mermaid encounters, pirate hat-making and the crowd-favourite Bam Wow Amazing Show.
There’ll also be silent discos, live music and fun circus picnics to round out the program.
The festival is best experienced on foot, wandering between performances, cafés and shops, and soaking up the spontaneous moments along the way.
