There's a new reason to road trip to WA’s South West: Vintners Wine Bar & McHenry Hohnen Cellar Door, now open in the tiny town of Witchcliffe.
With a population of less than 500, Witchcliffe might seem an unlikely spot for a high-end food and wine destination. But the town continues to punch above its weight with the arrival of a new venue combining world-class wines, seasonal produce, and a Michelin-starred chef.
Opened on 28 August, Vintners Wine Bar is housed in a beautiful rammed earth building on the main street. Visitors can choose their own style of experience, whether that’s a long-table lunch, wood-fired pizza and craft beer in the garden, or champagne by the fire.
The venue is a partnership between respected winemakers Murray McHenry and David Hohnen, whose McHenry Hohnen label is known for its acclaimed wines and sustainable vineyard practices.
Heading the kitchen is French chef Nicolas Delorme, who has worked at Burgundy’s Michelin-starred La Côte Saint Jacques as well as nearby Cape Lodge. His menu showcases the South West’s finest produce with a Mediterranean influence. Much of the menu is grown or raised on the McHenry property, including the lamb, vegetables, orchard fruits, olives and honey, creating a true farm-to-table dining experience.
Expect charcuterie, share plates, wood-fired pizzas, mains and desserts - all designed to pair seamlessly with the wines.
Wine lovers can explore the full McHenry Hohnen portfolio at the adjoining cellar door, guided by a passionate team eager to share the stories behind each glass. The wine list itself is a standout: more than 300 bottles, curated over several years by McHenry and winemaker Jacopo Dalli Cani. It brings together French and Italian classics, Margaret River favourites and rare back vintages you won’t find anywhere else.
