A world-class tourism destination is emerging on Perth’s northern coastline
Future waterfront dining, a family-friendly beach playground and Perth’s first metropolitan coastal pool are all planned as part of the major new development underway in the northern suburbs.
Perth’s northern coastline is set to welcome an exciting new waterfront precinct, with Ocean Reef Marina transforming into a world-class destination for locals and visitors alike.
Ocean Reef Marina will ultimately blend community spaces, tourism experiences and waterside living, creating a vibrant precinct designed for relaxation, recreation and connection to the coast.
Perth’s first coastal pool
A standout attraction will be Perth’s first metropolitan coastal pool, located within the marina, and next to the future family beach. The 50-metre pool is currently being designed to cater for everything from relaxed lap swimming to organised water sports. The pool is also proposed to include a landside kiosk, staff amenities, changerooms and toilet facilities.
A protected beach and coastal playground
The central sheltered beach will offer families a safe new swimming spot, complete with a future shark net for added peace of mind during beach dips and play dates.
Children of all abilities will be able to enjoy the coastal-themed beach playground, featuring fun elements including a large interactive lobster and ship. The playground will be close to public toilet facilities, changerooms, and shaded seating with picnic facilities, whilst being conveniently located within the beach park near future shops and restaurants.
With more than five hectares of community accessible open space planned throughout the precinct, there will be plenty of places to relax, play and connect with nature.
A hub for boating and marine activity
Boating will remain a major focus of the marina, with eight new boat ramps already open as part of the project. These are the longest boat ramps in the Perth metropolitan region and include a 108-metre southern holding jetty with a dedicated kayak launch landing.
Boating enthusiasts will also benefit from future Smart City technology, providing real-time information about boat ramp availability before arriving at the marina and a range of ramp safety features.
A new place to live, gather and enjoy the coast in Perth’s north
Led by DevelopmentWA, the Ocean Reef Marina project is expected to deliver around 1,000 new dwellings upon completion in a mixture of single residential homes, apartments and mixed-use sites. The first stage of lots is anticipated to be released in mid-2026.
In late 2025, two major community facilities opened within the precinct: Marine Rescue Whitfords relocated to a new purpose-built facility, and the Ocean Reef Sea Sports Club reopened its upgraded clubhouse next door, overlooking the future family-friendly beach and coastal pool.
Public open spaces, a lobster-themed playground and a bike pump track are also on track to open later this year.
As construction continues into 2026, Ocean Reef Marina is steadily emerging as a major coastal tourism and lifestyle destination in Perth’s north.
