The team behind Rottnest Island's new pickleball courts is taking on an exciting new venture with two padel clubs set to open in Perth this summer.
Operated by Outback Padel, six courts will be located at the Morley Noranda Recreation Club and four at the Bedford Bowling Club, bringing the fast-growing racquet sport to the Bayswater area for the first time.
The clubs will offer locals a chance to discover padel, a social and accessible sport that has surged in popularity around the world.
Owners Jaimie and Kristin say their passion for both pickleball and padel comes from the sense of community the sports create, helping people stay active, meet new friends and have fun along the way.
What is padel? Often described as a mix of tennis and squash, padel is typically played in doubles on a smaller enclosed court.
Players hit the ball over a net, similar to tennis, but can also use the surrounding glass walls during rallies, creating a dynamic and highly social game that's easy to learn.
Both clubs will welcome players of all ages and skill levels, with coaching programs, social play, school sessions and corporate events planned.
