When it’s time for a break between cycling the island, snorkelling adventures and quokka selfies, there’s a fun new activity to discover on Rottnest Island: pickleball.

Just in time for summer, Rotto Racket Sports officially opened its new four-court pickleball facility earlier this month at Bathurst Point.

Set against some of the island’s most spectacular coastline, the courts offer sweeping views of the iconic Bathurst Lighthouse, with Pinky Beach just 100 metres away. Pinky’s Beach Club is also close by, making it easy to refuel after a game.

The centre offers day-trippers and holidaymakers the chance to try one of the fastest-growing sports in the world. With casual court hire, beginner-friendly introductory sessions, kids’ holiday programs, private lessons and social play formats, there’s something for everyone.

Designed for convenience, the facility operates as a fully self-service experience via QR code. Visitors can book courts, hire paddles and balls, and start playing whenever it suits them. Open every day of the year from sunrise to sunset, the setup makes pickleball accessible, stress-free and fun for all ages and abilities.

Known for its social nature, the Rotto Racket Sports team say pickleball is perfect even for solo travellers, who can easily join a game and meet new people on the court.

“Pickleball has an incredible way of breaking down barriers — strangers become teammates within minutes. We love seeing families, friends and solo travellers all connecting on the courts.”

Families, first-timers and seasoned pickleballers are all welcome to join the action. Work up a sweat, then cool off with a dip at nearby Pinky Beach before heading off for your next island adventure.

A hybrid of tennis, badminton and table tennis, pickleball is played with paddles and a lightweight plastic ball. The smaller court and lower net make it easy to learn and enjoyable for players of all skill levels. Games can be played in singles or doubles, keeping the experience fast-paced and inclusive.

Rotto Racket Sports is open seven days a week from sunrise to sunset. Players can bring their own equipment or hire on-site. Simply rock up to the courts, scan the QR code and play, or book ahead online via the Rotto Racket Sports website.
