A brand-new 7km-long linear park is set to open in Perth’s inner south-east this October, creating 14 vibrant community spaces under the city’s first elevated rail line.

True to its name, Long Park stretches across six hectares from the new Carlisle Station to Beckenham Station, transforming land previously occupied by the Armadale Line into a continuous green corridor of recreation, art and community activity.

Across the 14 spaces, visitors will find four new playgrounds, two youth plazas with basketball, futsal and netball courts, plus three skate parks, including one at the new Oats Street Youth Plaza.

Locals and their pets can stay active at two new fitness parks with outdoor exercise equipment, two dog parks and two nature trails, including the Banksia Discovery Trail. Shared paths for wheeling, walking and bike riding will also connect people and places throughout the park.

Future activations are also part of the plan, with spaces designed to host pop-up cafes, events and community markets.

Running the length of the park, a 7km public art trail will feature more than 20 works by WA artists, weaving in Noongar stories and First Nations designs.

At its heart, Queens Park Station will feature a striking centrepiece artwork by Justin Martin, Susan Milne and Greg Stonehouse, reflecting Noongar themes of Healing and Revealing.

The project has been designed for a greener and more inclusive environment, shaped by extensive community consultation to ensure the park serves locals and visitors of all ages and abilities. Thousands of new native trees, plants and shrubs will double tree canopy across the corridor, providing shade and enhancing biodiversity.

The reopening of the Armadale Line, the completion of the Byford Rail Extension, and the official opening of Long Park will be marked with METRONET’s Elevate and Celebrate community event on Sunday 12 October.

The celebration will feature two event zones, one at the new Byford Station, and one in Long Park, along with activations at the new Armadale Station. Celebrations include live entertainment, kids’ activities, amusement rides, food trucks and market stalls.
