A huge new all-ages, all-abilities play space has opened in the heart of Boyup Brook, the perfect pit stop for families road tripping to places like Bridgetown and Pemberton.
The Sandakan Park All Ages and Abilities Play Space is a fully fenced, inclusive destination designed for everyone to enjoy. Highlights include an 8-metre-high play tower with three slides, a toddler zone, musical play area, trampolines, and a host of accessible features.
The design celebrates the town’s heritage and farming. The tower nods to the historic Flax Mill, the toddler slide features a windmill, there’s a restored tractor, four model sheep in a pen, and musical play equipment inspired by the annual Boyup Brook Country Music Muster.
It offers a range of accessible facilities including an abilities swing, wheelspin, abilities seat on the cableway, wayfinding signage, a wheelchair-accessible BBQ, and undercover picnic tables.
Alongside traditional play equipment, visitors will find a toy fuel station, mechanic pit stop, climbing boulder cluster, outdoor table tennis, and a dual zip line with an abilities seat. Parents can enjoy shaded picnic areas, pram-friendly pathways, and nearby cafes on Abel Street - perfect for a post-play coffee.
The community-driven project has been several years in the making, and made possible through a $1.76 million contribution from Talison Lithium’s Community Investment Program.
The fun doesn’t stop here - plans are underway to add a Ninja Warrior course, outdoor exercise equipment, and a fenced dog park. Longer-term goals for Sandakan Park include a skate park upgrade, pump track, RV pull-in, new bathrooms, and a native bush walk, subject to funding.
Everyone is welcome - including four-legged friends - at this vibrant new community hub, located less than three hours from Perth in WA’s Southern Forests & Valleys region.
