A striking new two-level viewing tower has opened at Yellagonga Regional Park in Wanneroo, offering sweeping lakeside views and exceptional birdwatching opportunities.
Overlooking Lake Joondalup, Perth's largest freshwater lake, the bird's nest-inspired tower has been designed to provide the perfect vantage point for wildlife watching while protecting the natural environment.
Located on the eastern side of the lake, the $2.2 million project forms part of a broader revitalisation of Yellagonga Regional Park, which stretches from Burns Beach in Joondalup south to Hepburn Avenue in Kingsley.
Visitors can access the tower via an elevated walkway, pause to take in the views and learn about the area's birdlife, before climbing to the upper level for panoramic views across the lake and wetlands.
Around 120 bird species have been recorded throughout the park's woodlands and wetlands, making it an important habitat and breeding ground for native wildlife.
Waterbirds, bush birds and raptors can all be spotted here, along with threatened species including the Peregrine Falcon and Carnaby's Cockatoo, making the park a haven for birdwatchers and wildlife photographers.
Birds aren't the only wildlife residents. The park's wetlands are also home to the Snake-necked Turtle, also known as the Oblong Turtle, which feeds on small fish and insects. Snakes and frogs are also commonly seen and heard throughout the area.
The viewing tower is located at Lake Joondalup Park, north of Rotary Park on Scenic Drive in Wanneroo.
