When kids in the Wheatbelt town of Kulin asked for a slide to be added to the town’s pool, the local council went one better and installed the largest waterslide in regional Western Australia.
The council found the giant slide for sale in a town on Queensland’s Sunshine Coast. From there it took a small army of trucks to bring it all the way across the country, in several sections, to Kulin, where it was reassembled.
Standing 18 metres high and with a run length of 182 metres, the slide is an unlikely beacon in this small community.
The town’s aquatic centre, where the waterslide is located, has been closed but will reopen in November. The centre will then be open most days during the summer months, generally on weekend afternoons, as well as Thursday to Sunday afternoons during the school summer holidays.
Also on offer is a newly refurbished swimming pool, a lap pool, a special small pool for kids, and barbeque facilities.
If you’re road tripping through the region and plan to visit, it's a good idea to check opening times with the manager by emailing admin@kulin.wa.gov.au or calling 9880 1204.
