RAC encourages West Australians to travel safely and is offering free tow safety sessions to prepare you for your next trip.
What to expect
This session is designed for caravan beginners or those wanting to freshen up on their towing skills. During these two hour sessions with a professional instructor, the following topics will be covered:
- Understanding vehicle weights
- Hand signals for reversing
- Trailer hitch up procedure
- Parking and unhitching a trailer
- Electric trailer brake use
- Other useful tips
Plus, you will see practical demonstrations with a vehicle and trailer set up so you can witness techniques discussed in the course. Maybe even try the practical yourself under the supervision of our professional instructors.

Advanced Tow Safe
Once you complete a Tow Safe workshop, you will be eligible to participate in our Advanced Tow Safe course.
This course is designed to enhance your knowledge and further explore topics to keep you and other road users safe. The following topics will be covered:
- Pre-departure checks
- Hitch and unhitch of caravan/trailer
- Combination turn points
- Straight line reversing
- 90-degree reverse parking
- Electric trailer brake set-up
Facilitated by RAC caravan experts, each course runs for 6 hours, consisting of a 1-hour presentation and 5 hours of practical training with your own caravan.
