RAC is helping to inject new life and vibrancy into the heart of Bentley, by partnering with the City of Canning to develop the Hillview Hub into a lively community precinct.
Through its Reconnect WA initiative, RAC is working with the City on the Hillview Park and streetscapes upgrade, which will create a new and exciting place for residents to relax and connect with each other.
RAC’s $250,000 funding contribution will include support for:
- Upgrades to facilities and amenities in Hillview Park, including a new nature play space, multi-sports hard court and outdoor fitness equipment.
- New pedestrian crossings, street upgrades and narrow traffic lanes to improve pedestrian and cycling access to the park and shops.
- Enhanced shopfront areas to allow for alfresco dining.
- Upgrades to the existing car park, enabling it to be converted into a community space for events and markets.
RAC Group Executive Social and Community Impact Patrick Walker said the project will bring new life to the local area.
“We are very excited to be partnering with the City of Canning through our Reconnect WA initiative to completely transform Hillview Park and its surrounds into a vibrant and active place for the community,” Mr Walker said.
“The redevelopment will not only improve playground facilities, park amenities and convert the existing car park for use as a space for community events and activations, but changes to the road surface will ensure a safer, more pedestrian-friendly destination.
“We’re passionate about creating more lively streets and public spaces for Western Australians to interact and connect with each other.
“This project is a great example of how we can reimagine our streets and public spaces, and we hope it will inspire changes in other neighbourhoods to support safer, sustainable and connected communities.”
City of Canning Mayor Patrick Hall said the RAC’s Reconnect WA initiative aligned with the City’s vision for the Hillview Hub.
”The City is investing just over $6 million in the area around Hillview Park in Bentley to create an exciting place to connect, play and celebrate our diverse community,” Mayor Hall said.
“The new Hillview Hub will be designed to appeal to a broad range of users of all ages and backgrounds, with our wonderfully diverse community at its heart.”
The City of Canning is also developing a new intercultural community centre within the Hillview Hub, which will support a range of community activities and programs that celebrate and promote cultural diversity.
The completion of Hillview Park, which the City expects to complete by the end of August, will be the first element of the Hillview Hub to be completed, with the remaining works scheduled for completion in December.
“We are truly grateful that the RAC shares our vision for the area and has offered this generous grant to upgrade the Hillview Park and streetscapes with improved play spaces and amenities,” Mayor Hall said.
Through its $1 million Reconnect WA initiative, RAC has partnered with local governments from across WA to deliver community-based projects which change the look and feel of streets and public spaces.
