RAC is encouraging its members to consider the impact of road trauma, congestion and the cost of motoring on their daily lives and act now to make a difference this State Election.

RAC’s Give Me Time campaign, launched today, gives Western Australians the chance to email their local candidates directly to help guarantee the issues are on the political agenda for the next State Government.

RAC General Manager Corporate Affairs, Will Golsby, said the March State Election is critical because road trauma, congestion and the cost of motoring impact RAC’s 850,000 members, and the community, every day.

“It’s crunch time – we want Western Australians to spend more time with their loved ones and less time sitting in traffic,” he said.

“Western Australia has the worst road fatality rate of any State; the devastating impacts of which are particularly felt in our regional communities.

“Without change, Perth is also forecast to buckle under the pressure of congestion and our regional communities require increased investment in transport projects to keep them safe and connected.

“The cost of motoring remains a high priority issue for RAC members. Registration fees, compulsory third party insurance and licence fees must be capped at or below the rate of inflation and Third Party Insurance fund dividends should also be directed to road safety programs and initiatives.”

The #givemetime campaign website provides members with the opportunity to take part in the campaign by emailing their local candidates.

“By taking one minute to email your local candidates you could help make a real difference,” Mr Golsby said.

RAC is also monitoring election promises that relate to road safety, congestion, transport and the cost of motoring.
