RAC is investing a further $1 million into projects and initiatives which create more vibrant and connected communities across Perth and regional WA, through a second year of its Reconnect WA initiative.
The $1 million announced today builds on the initial pool of $1 million launched last year, bringing the total amount offered under Reconnect WA to $2 million.
From today, local governments can submit applications under two funding categories:
- Projects costing up to $100,000 are eligible for co-funding of up to 80 per cent; and
- Projects costing more than $100,000 are eligible for co-funding of up to 50 per cent to a maximum RAC contribution of $250,000.
RAC Group Executive Social and Community Impact Patrick Walker said RAC is looking to partner with local governments on projects, including pilots and trials, that reinvigorate our local streets and public spaces.
“We’re very excited to announce a further $1 million for our Reconnect WA initiative to trial new ways of using our streets and public spaces and help create more vibrant and connected communities,” Mr Walker said.
“Last year, we were overwhelmed with the volume and quality of applications we received and we’re looking forward to seeing new ideas and innovative ways to bring more life to the places we live.
“Pop-up plazas, community artwork and infrastructure improvements to support safer walking and cycling are just some examples of projects we’ve helped bring to life through Reconnect WA so far.
“Western Australians are passionate about their communities, so it’s been rewarding to see both RAC members and local residents participating in the decision-making and design processes for changes to their local areas.
“Ultimately, we hope the learnings from projects delivered through Reconnect WA will help lay the foundations for longer-term changes which support safe, sustainable and connected communities in Western Australia,” Mr Walker said.
Applications for Reconnect WA will be open for six weeks, closing on 20 August.
Last year, RAC partnered with ten local governments across WA through Reconnect WA to co-fund projects, including:
- Subiaco Pop-Up Square, Subiaco
- Gnalla Pop-Up Plaza, Nollamara
- Colours of Mandurah Walkway, Mandurah
- Merredin Pilot Piazza, Merredin
- Hannay Lane Revitalisation, Dunsborough
Projects from last year’s Reconnect WA initiative with the Cities of Cockburn, Geraldton, Shire of Northam and two other local governments will be launched in the coming months.
