RAC has welcomed more than $14 million in funding from the Federal Government to upgrade dangerous roads and intersections throughout Perth and regional WA.

Under the 2021-22 Black Spot Program, WA local governments will receive $14.74 million to install safety upgrades at 34 sites from Kalgoorlie to Denmark.

RAC General Manager External Relations Will Golsby said it’s fantastic to see investment in making WA roads safer.

“We’re very pleased to see more than $14 million in Federal funding allocated towards upgrading dangerous roads and intersections across WA, including two sites in North Perth and Bindoon which have been highlighted by our members and the community within our most recent RAC
Risky Roads Survey,” Mr Golsby said.

“These upgrades will go a long way to making our roads safer and reducing the unacceptable number of people killed and seriously injured each year in WA.

“We’re glad to see half of the funded projects are located throughout regional WA, which is home to the majority of our road fatalities every year and is currently on track to record the highest number of road deaths in five years.”

Today’s investment builds on previously announced Federal funding of $522 million for the WA Government’s Regional Road Safety Program, which aims to reduce regional road trauma by 60 per cent by installing low-cost safety treatments across thousands of kilometres of regional roads.

So far this year, 92 people have been tragically killed on WA’s roads — 61 of those in our regional areas.
