It is disappointing to see Western Australians hit with further increases to transport costs.
RAC has consistently called for increases in transport costs to be capped at or below the rate of inflation. The Government's announcement of vehicle licensing charges increasing by 5.5 per cent is significantly above the rate of inflation.
This is yet another hit to the hip pocket of WA motorists; particularly given transport costs in our State have been on the rise for a number of years.
Increasing the cost of public transport fares by 1.8 per cent is also disappointing given Perth’s public transport costs are now the second-most expensive in the country, second only to Sydney.
The average Perth household now pays nearly $17,000 per year to move around our State, which makes up approximately 10.7 per cent of the household budget. To put that in to context, national household expenses for electricity and gas make up around one to three per cent. This is why the cost of motoring remains a high priority issue for RAC members.
