With winter setting in and school holidays approaching, many Western Australians are about to embark on an annual overseas trip.

According to RAC Executive Manager of Travel and Tourism, Mike Leary, there are some destinations that are clear favourites for WA travellers.

“According to our travel booking data for the last financial year, Singapore is the number one international destination for Western Australians,” Mr Leary said.

“The second most popular spot is the United Kingdom; third is Indonesia; fourth is New Zealand; and fifth is the United States.

“Canada, Italy, Vietnam, Thailand and the Netherlands rounded out the top 10.”

Mr Leary said the interesting mix of destinations shows Western Australians are adventurous travellers.

“Singapore is always really popular with our members because it is nearby, and is also one of the key cruise departure points.

“Indonesia, Thailand and Vietnam are all there as top traveller choices as well, which is understandable - they’re nearby, relatively inexpensive and offer a great climate for those wanting to escape the cold.

“The UK is always a popular option with London acting as a great base for further European travel.

“New Zealand is again relatively close in the grand scheme of things, and offers great holidaying for the adventure seekers as well as high quality food and wine culture.

“Big-ticket destinations like the United States, Canada, Italy and The Netherlands are up there as well which is fantastic to see and demonstrates Western Australians’ willingness to explore the world. Flights to the United States and parts of Europe are now more affordable so they have ever been, which may also be a factor.”
